One of the most under-looked films of the 00's
Spike Lee's 25th Hour is one of the most under-looked films of the past decade.
The film tells that last day of Monty Brogan, on his last day of freedom before entering a length prison sentence. Spike Lee's method of addressing a post 9/11 New York City is brilliant, it doesn't rely exploiting that tragic day but instead through subtle methods shows how it affected the characters.
This is the best that I've ever seen Edward Norton and probably the best we will ever see from him. The thoughts and emotions that he has surrounding his last day, he doesn't outwardly portray them but you can tell that they're bottling up within him.
Philip Seymour Hoffman's performance is incredible as with most movies he's in. Hoffman plays a socially-inept high school English teacher that is not use to drinking. Seeing Hoffman's character go through the different stages of drinking is genius.
This is one of the greatest films of the 00's and one that most people never saw.
