Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World (2010)

Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World
Rating: 4.5/5

Michael Cera stars as Scott Pilgrim
In a rather boring summer, Edgar Wright's new film Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World ends the summer of boring sequels and 3D films with an explosive punch to your face. The film stars Michael Cera (Arrested Development) as Scott Pilgrim, a 22 year old loser who sits around playing video games and playing in his crappy band. Scott is currently dating a 17 year old high school Asian girl named Knives Chau (Ellen Wong) for which he receives grief from just about everybody he knows.

All seems to be going terribly wrong until he has a dream of a mysterious girl with pink hair. Briefly after said dream, Pilgrm spots the infamous girl at a library and then at a party. Ramona Flowers played by Mary Elizabeth Winstead (Live Free or Die Hard) recently has moved to Toronto from NYC to work for Amazon.Ca as a deliverer. Well Scott and Ramona end up dating and briefly after is when the film goes into super hyper drive.

At Scott's Battle of the Bands concert he's competing in, a man named Matthew Patel comes flying through the rooftop and begins attacking Scott. Patel claims to be part of the league of evil ex's and that in order for Scott to date Ramona he will have to defeat all of them. All off the ex-'s feel sort of like a boss battle in video game which may be a turn off for some but I quite enjoyed it. Each of the ex's is just as fun as the last. It was rather funny seeing Ann from Arrested Development as one of the ex's since in Arrested Development Michael Cera's character dated her. Jason Schwartzman also works surprisingly well as a villain. Each battle is rather entertaining, fun, and just plain awesome though.

Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World is simply a very fun movie that emulates how many individuals see the world today. It's crafty and explosive and touching at times. The film is most definitely not for everyone but if you're like me one of the many people obsessed with the media, Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World will feel an awful lot like how you view the world.

Edgar Wright has once proved again that he is a great director with his adaptation of Scott Pilgrim Vs . The World. It's nice to see that he can survive without the talent of Simon Pegg and Nick Frost. That was one of my many worries was that without the help of them he might not live up to his past work. Luckily though, Scott Pilgrim Vs. the World shows just how talented he is as a director.
