The future of film

This weekend was full of movie watching as with any day of my life. As I watched Stanley Kubrick's 2001: A Space Odyssey, I began to think to who will be up to the level of a filmmaker like Stanley Kubrick, Alfred Hitchcock or Martin Scorsese for our time.

If I was to lay it all on one filmmaker it would be P.T. Anderson.

Paul Thomas Anderson

He's been making films since the mid 90's and every one of his films has just been a masterpiece. Before the man was 30, he made what is one of the greatest films ever made (Magnolia). While he didn't get nearly the recognition he deserved for that, he did for his 2007 film There Will Be Blood

Then again, it seems every great director missed out on the recognition they deserved. Stanley Kubrick's 2001: A Space Odyssey received mixed reviews and didn't impress the Academy. Alfred Hitchcock's Vertigo received mixed reviews as well and wasn't recognized as a great movie for a number of years.

P.T. Anderson at age 40 has so much potential and I look forward to see what he can do in the coming years.
