Toy Story 3 Cliffhanger Screening.

Across the country, Pixar is having cliffhanger showings for college students of their newest film, Toy Story 3. The screening shows the first 70 minutes of the film with what is most definitely a cliffhanger. I got to the theater at about 7 for the 8 showing to find a huge line of people. All those in attendance had to leave any electronic devices in their car. They even busted out the wands!

Anyways,

The preview started with an introduction by Lee Unkrich, director of Toy Story 3, explaining why exactly Pixar was doing these screenings across the country for college students. The reason he had was that this age group was the group that grew up with Toy Story and much like Andy in the film, most of us had headed off to college and forgotten our old toys.

My opinion

This movie is mind blowingly good. The graphics are the best I’ve ever seen from any computer animated film by far. It puts everything else to shame. The detail in everything is just breathtaking.

The movie itself is incredibly funny, more than any other Pixar film by far. The script itself shows a lot of promise. The characters have a lot more conflicts and are a lot more developed than the first two films. Jessie shines in this movie much more than Toy Story 2. She’s actually likeable in this film!!!

For anyone who has grown up with Toy Story, the movie will send that cool nice shiver down your body giving that feeling of nostalgia. Pixar truly does bring magic to movies. This movie is sure to be one of the best films of the year and is Pixar at the top of their game, check it out this June.

PLOT SUMMARY (SPOILER ALERT, Scroll down for details)

The film starts off with a train robbery scene with Buzz, Jessie, and Woody against the Potato head family. This scene kind of pays tribute to the beginning of both Toy Story 1 and 2. Afterwards, the scene then drifts off showing Andy being the one actually acting it out (as a child). The film then shifts to a 4:3 ratio with Andy’s mom filming him through his years as a kid.

Next the film shows Andy days away from heading off to college and reverts back to the regular 16:9. His mom tells him that he has to throw everything in his room away or put it in boxes and stick it in the attic. Andy tosses all of his toys in a bag and saying that they’re merely “trash”. Woody lucks out though and Andy sticks him in his box headed to college.  Andy then leaves the bag of toys in the hallway to help out his sister and then his mom mistakenly thinks its trash. Andy’s mom throws the bag out on the curb. You get a small little cameo here that’s kind of fun, Sid is now your friendly neighborhood garbage man! The toys then break out and go into a box headed to Sunnyside daycare.

Welcome to Sunnyside. At first things seem fantastic for the gang, they’re greeted by a friendly bear named Lotso Huggin Bear. Woody quickly decides that he needs to get home to Andy so that he can go with him to college. Unfortunately after Woody’s daring escape out of Sunnyside, he gets stuck on a tree and is taken home by a girl (whose named has escaped my memory).
After this the story heads back to Sunnyside, the toys are eagerly greeted by the small children (who do meet the minimum age requirements to play with the toys!). The toys are all beat senseless, slobbered on, and painted on. The group realizes things aren’t quite as they seem at Sunnyside. Buzz decides to talk to Lotso and the group from the Rainbow Room, a placed for older children to play with toys. There Buzz is taken against his will and turned to Demo Mode to activate his former mentality from Toy Story. The rest of the toys are then held captive by Lotso and his cronies.

Back at the girl’s house Woody finds out what Sunnyside daycare really is, a prison. So then after some rather comedic moments from Jeff Garlin as a stuffed pony, Woody heads back to Sunnyside to help bust out his pals. Also there’s a cameo from a Totoro doll, it’s awesome.

Once back at Sunnyside, Woody informs the group that they’re busting out of this place and headed back to Andys. The group then goes through a series of endeveurs such as resetting Buzz to his original state which actually fails. They actually end up turning him into the Spanish mode to which he talks and acts hilarious. They also bust out subtitles for those who don’t understand Spanish like myself!

That’s where the preview screening ended.
