Synecdoche, New York (2008)

Rating: 5/5

Philip Seymour Hoffman with Writer/ Director Charlie Kaufman

The acting all around is just amazing because well look at the cast. Philip Seymour Hoffman, Samantha Morton, Catherine Keener. This isn't a movie you can get away with watching once or even twice, the movie is so deeply layered and can take a lot of different tracks depending on your mindset.

The first time I watched it, I was constantly reminded of the theme of death but then as I watched it the 2nd time I noticed how much it stressed the importance of families. A lot of the reasons for his frustrations come from his family but at the same time it's Caden's motivation for everything he does in his life.

There's fine details that can't be seen in this film the first time or perhaps anytime, there's always something for the viewer each time though.

It's hard to discuss in words this film though, for one to truly understand it one must watch it. Everyone will have a different experience with the film. One might think of death throughout the film or one might think of love. It's an interesting film that makes you think really reflect on life though.
