Unthinkable (2010)

Rating: 4/5

Michael Sheen and Samuel L. Jackson star in Unthinkable

If you want a good thriller, you've got it with Unthinkable. The film stars Samuel L Jackson (Pulp Fiction) as 'H' , a Black-Ops interrogator, who will do the unthinkable and takes things beyond what is recognized as humane. The way that 'H'' sees things though are that by taking one man's humanity away, he saves millions of others lives. 'H' is brought in after Steven Younger, played by a twig version of Michael Sheen (The Queen), announces that he has 3 nuclear bombs hidden within the United States. 'H' is assisted by FBI agent, Helen Brody played by Carrie-Anne Moss (The Matrix).

The film presents a lot of interesting ideologies surrounding the United States and it's use of torture and also that of our of involvement within many Middle Eastern countries. There's no denying that many of the points Younger brings up are true and it brings a harsh realism to the actions of the United States. The two clashing ideologies of the use of torture and not using it become interesting and makes one think of how effective or ineffective it can be.

I haven't had a film get my blood pumping like this in some time and it was a true joy to watch Samuel L. Jackson and Michael Sheen in a good movie. It's one entertaining film.
